What we do

Six things we get called for

  • Heat pump serviceMost of the equipment around here is heat pump based. Defrost, backup heat and control settings are where the faults hide.
  • RepairsDiagnosed with instruments, priced in writing, with what else is close behind noted.
  • ReplacementsSized from the building, with the ductwork measured before anything is ordered.
  • Controls and thermostatsWiring, staging, dual fuel and zoning — set up so the equipment does what the schedule says.
  • Ducts and airflowSealing, returns and the rooms that have never kept up with the rest of the house.
  • Small commercialSuites, shops and clinics with splits or packaged units, on a maintenance schedule.
Thermostats

Before you buy the smart one

A modern thermostat needs a common wire, needs to know whether it is driving a heat pump or a furnace, and needs to be told when backup heat is allowed. Fit one without those and you get a beautiful screen attached to a system that runs badly.

Answer four questions about what you have and the check tells you what will work, what needs adding, and where the honest answer is "not that one".

How it works

A visit, start to finish

  • You describe itWhat it does, since when, and what changed just before.
  • We measureTemperatures, pressures, airflow, and the control signals at the equipment.
  • We explain and priceIn writing, with the options where more than one is honest.
  • We leave it set upSettings recorded, and the thermostat explained to whoever uses it.

Questions

Before you call

Will a smart thermostat work on my system?

Usually, but it depends on the wiring, the equipment type and whether the house is zoned. Our compatibility check covers all three and says plainly when the answer is a different kind of thermostat.

My heat pump runs constantly in winter. Is it broken?

Often not. A heat pump is meant to run long and steady, and the usual problem is that the thermostat is configured as a furnace, which brings the backup heat on far sooner than it should.

What is a C wire and do I need one?

It is a common wire that gives the thermostat constant power. Most modern thermostats need it. Where there is not one, the honest fixes are a new cable or an adapter at the equipment — not a thermostat that borrows power.

Do you work on ductless systems?

Yes. They are controlled by their own handsets and interfaces, and we will tell you when a third-party thermostat would cost you functions rather than adding them.

Do you serve small commercial buildings?

Yes — shops, offices, clinics and light industrial units, with maintenance and controls work as well as repairs.

Which areas do you cover?

Federal Way, Auburn, Kent, Des Moines, Milton and Edgewood, and parts of north Tacoma.
